Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information TechChamp collects when you visit, how it’s used, how advertising and cookies work on this site, and the choices and rights you have.
The short version
- You don’t need an account to use TechChamp, and we don’t ask you to register.
- Our ticket checker and calculators run in your browser, and the numbers and amounts you type aren’t sent to us.
- We, and our hosting provider, receive basic technical information when you visit, as every website does.
- We may show ads, including Google ads, which use cookies. You can opt out of personalised ads.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
TechChamp (“we”, “us”) is an independent South African lottery information website. We aren’t affiliated with the National Lottery or its operator. We’re responsible for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact us at our contact page.
Information we collect
Information you give us
If you contact us, for example to report a mistake or ask a question, we receive the details you choose to send, such as your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply and to deal with your request. Please don’t send us sensitive information such as ID numbers, bank details or photos of lottery tickets. We’ll never ask for them.
Information collected automatically
When you visit, our web server and hosting provider automatically record technical information, such as your IP address, the date and time of the visit, the pages requested, your browser and device type, and the page that referred you. This is standard for websites. We use it to keep the site running, to keep it secure, to fix problems and to understand in general terms how the site is used.
Things that stay in your browser
The ticket checker, calculators, simulators and other tools on TechChamp work in your web browser. The numbers, dates and amounts you enter into them aren’t sent to our servers or stored by us.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website or a third party stores on your device. They help websites work, remember settings and, in the case of advertising, show ads and measure how they perform. On TechChamp, cookies may be used for:
- Essential operation, such as keeping the site working and secure.
- Advertising, set by our advertising partners (see below).
You can control or delete cookies in your browser’s settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site, or the ads shown, behave. Instructions for common browsers are on their support pages.
Advertising
TechChamp is free to use and may display advertising, including ads served by Google AdSense, to help cover its costs. This is how it works:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info to opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising.
- To learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Our advertising partners have their own privacy policies, and we don’t control how they collect or use information. Advertisers can’t see your personal information through us, and ads don’t influence our results or our content. Showing an ad isn’t an endorsement of the advertiser.
How we use your information
- To operate, secure and improve the site.
- To reply to your messages and deal with corrections and requests.
- To show advertising, and to understand how ads and the site perform.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect our rights.
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t use it to make decisions that have legal effect on you.
Who we share it with
We share information only as needed to run the site, with:
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers, who process visits to the site on our behalf.
- Advertising partners, including Google, as described above.
- Authorities and professional advisers, where the law requires it or where it’s necessary to protect our rights.
Where information is processed
Our hosting provider and advertising partners may process information on servers outside South Africa. Where that happens, we expect them to protect it as required by applicable law.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. Server logs are kept for a limited period determined by our hosting provider. Messages you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and then deleted when no longer needed.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, but no website or online service can be completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
We’re committed to handling personal information in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Under POPIA, and similar laws elsewhere, you may have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and ask for access to it;
- ask us to correct or delete personal information that’s inaccurate or that we no longer need;
- object to certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it;
- complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe your information has been mishandled.
To make a request, contact us at our contact page and tell us what you’d like. We may need to verify your identity before we act. Because we don’t run accounts and can’t identify visitors from their browsing alone, we may not hold personal information that we can link to you.
Children
TechChamp is intended for adults. The National Lottery is for people aged 18 and over, and our site isn’t directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
Links to other websites
Our pages may link to other websites, including the official National Lottery website. We’re not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add or change advertising or analytics. The date at the top shows when it was last changed, and we encourage you to check back occasionally.
